NJIT FSAE

We are a group of dedicated NJIT students who work each year to build a functional, F1-style racecar. Through this project, we learn new skills, collaborate with businesses and industry leaders, and contribute to a thriving community of FSAE members.

What is FSAE?

Formula SAE is an annual competition in which students from across the globe compete to build and race an F1-style open-wheel racecar. Teams are evaluated on design, cost-effectiveness, endurance, acceleration, cornering, maneuverability, and fuel efficiency. Our team operates using an internal combustion engine, but FSAE encompasses driverless and electric cars as well. This competition has a strong emphasis on intentional, student-led design and independent manufacturing. Thanks to the support and organization of the Society of Automotive Engineers, we are able to learn and grow as part of a skilled community of engineers and industry leaders!

Our Mission

Our mission is twofold: first, we want to build the highest quality of car that we can, and second, we want to expand the professional and educational opportunities for our members. We aim to distinguish ourselves through high-quality and well-thought-out design that shows an understanding of the principles and engineering that drive Formula racing. To this end, we work throughout the entire year to improve our knowledge and hope to demonstrate our learning at competition this year. In addition, we are extremely dedicated to helping each member of our organization build their skills and take full advantage of the opportunities we have here at NJIT. Our organization helps members to:

  • Become more comfortable with various manufacturing processes and equipment

  • Learn to use the NJIT Makerspace effectively

  • Learn valuable teamwork and communication skills

  • Experience the engineering design process from start to finish

  • And much more!
